We unite our loved ones and exchange our vows on Saturday afternoon at Tabernacle Baptist Church in downtown Beaufort, South Carolina, the charming lowcountry town where Anthony grew up. Originally built in the 1840s, this classic church is a bedrock of Beaufort’s African-American community. It is said that Harriet Tubman, along with several of the slaves she freed, gathered here following the Combahee River Raid, and today the church, led by our officiant Reverend Kenneth Hodges, is planning a monument to her legacy. The grounds are also the final resting place of Robert Smalls, a Beaufort native who escaped slavery to deliver a Confederate ship to Union forces and later served as a U.S. Congressman.
With its clapboard exterior, stained glass details, inspiring history, and intimate feel, Tabernacle Baptist is both a beautiful and meaningful venue for starting our lives as husband and wife.
